What Pastor Frank Houston the founder of Hillsong Mega-Church did to the hundreds of innocent little boys he secretly sexually abused over four plus decades was far worse than this case involving a relatively young pastor David Volmer otherwise known by his Africans name “Dawid Volmer”.

Pastor Frank Houston should have spent the rest of his life in jail for multiple pedophile offences in Australia and New Zealand and highly likely elsewhere in the world. Like in Sri Lanka and Chile where he did “ministry” trips. Pastor Frank Houston was an evil hardened lifelong pedophile whereas David Volmer appears to have been doing pedophile crimes for a few years, although it could have been much longer.

In any event, David Volmer is going to spend at least the next eight and a half years in a Western Australian jail which wont be pleasant.

Here is an article in the Perth Now publication about his sentencing on 6 November 2016.

Perth pastor Dawid Volmer jailed over pedophile ring sex abuse of teen girl, 13

A PERTH pastor leading a “sexual double life” has been jailed for 10-and-a-half years for the “degrading” sexual abuse of a 13-year-old girl, which included raping her while she was blindfolded, naked and drugged.

Married father-of-two, Dawid Volmer, better known as David Volmer, was one of eight men police charged over the alleged pedophile ring that abused the young girl.

Shocking details of Volmer’s role and the alleged involvement of the victim’s own father in exploiting her emerged when the disgraced evangelical Christian preacher was sentenced in the Perth District Court on Thursday afternoon.

Volmer, 41, pleaded guilty to 12 charges — indecently dealing with a child, sexual penetration of a child and stupefying in order to commit an indictable offence — over the course of three sexual encounters with the girl.

The court was told in January 2014 the victim’s father responded to an ad on the website, Craigslist, that Volmer had listed, offering sexual massages. The girl’s father allegedly told Volmer his daughter would like to have a massage and assured him she was over 16.

The trio met at a Joondalup park and Volmer told police that as soon as he saw the girl he knew “in his heart” she was well underage — guessing about 13 or 14 — despite the repeated insistence from her father that she was over 16.

Prosecutor Robert Wilson said Volmer booked a city hotel room and molested the naked girl, including touching her breasts, but when she started crying he stopped. He said the girl was chastised by her father and then left with her dad.

About a year passed before Volmer contacted the girl’s father again, organising another two meetings at the father’s home in Perth’s northern suburbs on the Kik messaging app.

On the last two occasions, Mr Wilson said the girl’s father had his daughter blindfolded, stripped naked and waiting on a bed for Volmer to arrive, with Volmer’s actions escalating to having sexual intercourse with the girl.

During the encounters, Volmer made the girl sniff amyl nitrate vapour, a relaxant which he had purchased from a sex shop that is said to enhance sexual pleasure.

The girl later told police that the substance from the small brown bottle made her feel “woozy and light-headed” for a short period. The court was told the victim’s father was present at all times during the abuse.

Mr Wilson said Volmer and the girl’s father had concocted a plan to tell the girl Volmer was blackmailing her father and if she did not do what Volmer wanted her father would go to jail. The victim’s father was also blindfolded to maintain the ruse.

He said after the third meeting Volmer claimed to be feeling guilty and talked to the girl’s father about handing themselves into police.

But he said Volmer told police the girl’s father responded that he was “making a fuss over nothing” and going to police would be a big mistake, reiterating his daughter was over 16.

“He wanted to believe that, but he knew it wasn’t true,” he said, adding the girl was 12 when Volmer started abusing her.

Mr Wilson said at that point Volmer broke off all communication with the father and deleted messages between them.

He was arrested and charged in June this year after the girl was interviewed by specialist police in April.

The Sunday Times exclusively revealed in early July that Volmer had been charged, with WA Police announcing details of the alleged pedophile ring later that month.

Volmer pleaded guilty to all charges in July and was on bail until Thursday.

He was made eligible for parole after serving eight-and-a-half years.

ABUSE ‘DEGRADING, HUMILIATING’: JUDGE

District Court Judge Mark Herron said Volmer exploited a vulnerable, defenceless child and was involved in corrupting her for his own sexual gratification.

He reduced Volmer’s sentence by two years due to his willingness to co-operate with authorities in future prosecutions.

Judge Herron said Volmer knew the girl was being pressured by her father and reflected on that over a year in between the first and subsequent encounters, yet his offending in the later meetings escalated in depravity.

“You exploited and took advantage of a clearly vulnerable, defenceless young girl in circumstances where you knew she was being forced into the activity by her father and when the activity was clearly distressing for her,” he said.

“You sexually abused and were involved in the corruption of a young girl.”

He found Volmer made the girl inhale amyl nitrate for sinister purposes, to ensure she was compliant with his demands. The experiences must have been “distressing, degrading and humiliating” for the young girl, the judge found.

“The young girl, being blindfolded and not being able to see what was happening, must have added to the terrifying and humiliating nature of the ordeal,” Judge Herron added.

“Your actions were depraved and were entirely for your own sexual gratification.”

Judge Herron said Volmer’s relationship with his wife, who remained supportive of him, was happy, stable and without conflict, with the pair sharing a strong religious faith.

But he said Volmer had long lived a “sexual double life”, which included sexual trysts with other women he met via Craigslist, which evolved into a sexual interest in children.

Their two teenage daughters are aged 15 and 13.

Volmer’s defence lawyer told the court Volmer’s shameful actions had severe consequences for his family, who had been placed on virtual house arrest with him and subjected to vigilante-style action via attacks on the family home, threatening phone calls and vitriol on social media.

Judge Herron said he also took into account Volmer’s early guilty pleas, full admissions to police, his remorse and insight into his crimes, his previous good character and community work and rehabilitation steps already taken.

He also accepted Volmer was a low risk of reoffending.

Volmer had told a psychologist he conceded his actions were “immoral and vile” and struggled to explain why he committed the offences and why the crimes had escalated to such a deviant level.

The judge said Volmer’s sexual appetite and behaviour had no boundaries and his fantasies and desires prompted him to cross a line.

“You tried to rationalise your behaviour by convincing yourself you were not harming the girl,” he said.

‘SORRY IS THE ONLY WORD HE DOES HAVE’: LAWYER

Volmer’s defence lawyer Nick Scerri said his client showed genuine remorse and victim empathy and understood his actions had destroyed all the goodwill he had created through the work done with his church, in the community and in jails with the Prison Fellowship Program.

“It’s (the sexual abuse) is not the entirety of his past conduct. The good things he’s done shouldn’t be entirely overshadowed by these matters,” he told the court.

“This has been a real eye-opener for him.”

Mr Scerri said his client, who had no prior criminal history, faced deportation back to his native South Africa after serving his sentence.

Outside court after sentencing, Mr Scerri relayed a message from Volmer.

“He said that over the past few months he’s come to realise the true consequences of his actions, the pain and destruction that he has caused in the lives of the victim, his family, his friends and his workplace is immeasurable,” he said.

“He’s tried to find the words to say sorry, but no matter what he says, the words feel empty and powerless. Maybe because no matter what he says, sorry will not undo the damage he has caused.

“He further says that sorry is the only word he does have though. He wants to say it over and over and shout it from the rooftops.”

Mr Scerri said his client accepted the consequences of his actions and asked for the community to forgive him.

Volmer moved to WA with his wife and daughters in 2012 on a work visa, setting up a home in Banksia Grove, after stints living the US and Singapore.

In Perth, he established a branch of the South African Acts Christian Church in Carramar, which was closed after he was charged.

He was also the head of the WA Prison Fellowship Program, a religious outreach scheme for inmates — but he resigned after his secret life was exposed.

The girl’s father, who is yet to enter pleas to hundreds of charges laid against him, cannot be named to protect his daughter’s identity. He has been remanded in custody.

The court cases of the six other men charged as part of Operation Ripstop remain ongoing.
