“The people in church have become family. I’ll never leave them for just cause of a fuck up.”
Amanda Jayne of City Harvest Church Singapore saying it as she sees it on her Facebook page
“Ah ya seriously. All this shade is getting out of hand.
Y’all forgetting that CHC is made up of A LOT of people and not just a buncha leaders.
Look, I’m a CHC member and I’m hoping to shed a bit of light on this thought that a lot of members of the public have: “CHC MEMBERS ARE IDIOTS FOR FOLLOWING KONG AND HIS BAND OF CROOKS.”
I don’t speak for the whole congregation (and certainly not the leaders), but I believe my thoughts reflect the reasons behind staying with the church for a good number of members.
Firstly, and most importantly, we’re not followers of Kong. We’re followers of Christ. We just so happen to be in a church that Kong founded.
Secondly, a lot of the people who stay behind in the church grew up there, our friends, our family are all there. Heck, I met my husband there. And it’s more of a community than anything. Should I leave my community because of the leader’s fuck up? (Yes, no matter the good intentions, it has to be said: he fucked up.) If one of your relatives does a great wrong do you leave them behind? No what. We all support each other. The people in church have become family. I’ll never leave them for just cause of a fuck up.
It’s a tough time now for all of church members because people judge us. We’re “brainwashed”, “idiots”, “non-functioning members of the public”, blah blah blah. But these are people who have families and friends who aren’t even from church lei. Why throw so much shade? Christians from other churches also label us as giving Christianity bad name. Come on guys, why?! Christianity is about love and forgiveness right? Anyway, I’m not sure if you know a CHC member personally. But maybe if you do, and that person can speak coherently, talk to him/her before assuming that we all are blind sheep.
I’d be more than happy to answer questions like why give money blindly, why support Sun Ho, why still stay etc etc, as long as the person asking isn’t looking for a punching bag to throw cruel jabs at.
P.s. I’m not looking to start a debate, I’m just trying to share that there’s always two sides to a coin.”
Personally, I traveled quite a bit, and I realized many churches around the world are actually keeping CHC in prayers. Even churches in the remote mountains, deep in the valleys of Nepal are keeping us …See More
Remember, Jesus accepted everything that was planned for him.
Kelvin TanFinally I find a CHC member willing to do a semi “Ask me Anything” thread. =) Just 2 questions Amanda. I am curious to hear from a CHC member their views on these 2.
