“It is like the dew of Hermon
Coming down upon the mountains of Zion”

In context:

Psalm 133 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

The Excellency of Brotherly Unity.

A Song of Ascents, of David.

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is
For brothers to dwell together in unity!
It is like the precious oil upon the head,
Coming down upon the beard,
Even Aaron’s beard,
Coming down upon the edge of his robes.
It is like the dew of Hermon
Coming down upon the mountains of Zion;
For there the Lord commanded the blessing—life forever.

Dew is atmospheric moisture which descends on earth during the night due to temperature and atmospheric changes during the night.

Dew on Hermon

Mount Hermon is located in northern Israel, on the border with Lebanon and Syria, half an hour’s drive north of Lake Galilee.

Mount Hermon (Arabic: جبل الشيخ or جبل حرمون‎ / ALA-LC: Jabal al-Shaykh (“Mountain of the Sheikh“) or Jabal Haramun; Hebrew: הר חרמון‎, Har Hermon) is a mountain cluster constituting the southern end of the Anti-Lebanon mountain range. Its summit straddles the border between Syria and Lebanon and, at 2,814 m (9,232 ft) above sea level, is the highest point in Syria. On the top, in the United Nations buffer zone between Syrian and Israeli-occupied territories, is the highest permanently manned UN position in the world, known as “Hermon Hotel”. The southern slopes of Mount Hermon extend to the Israeli-occupied portion of the Golan Heights, where the Mount Hermon ski resort is located. A peak in this area rising to 2,236 m (7,336 ft) is the highest elevation in Israeli-controlled territory.

King David, the writer of Psalm 133, is using Israel’s highest mountain to make his point about dew being like the Lord’s blessing.

Dew and farms

People who live in cities, like I did for most of my life before I lived on a remote farm, are less likely to notice dew than those who live in the country on farms.

Two mornings ago, there was a heavy dew on the ground when I went outside in the morning. It spoke to me of God’s blessing.

Waiting on the Lord listening to worship

When we wait on the Lord listening to worship, the Dew of the Lord’s Presence settles on us.
